Species text
Crossocerus distinguendus is a sphecid wasp formerly confined to E. Sussex, Kent, Surrey and S. Essex (Falk, 1991a) but more recently recorded in N. Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex. It is apparently increasing in frequency and is largely associated with unthreatened, often artificial habitat types (Falk, 1991b). Nesting usually occurs in sand or gravel slopes or vertical banks that are fully exposed to the sun. Abroad it is also reported to use old timber. It is reported to provision its nest with aphids or diptera such as Dolichopodidae. References
